Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. today announced that it will contribute a total of US$ 1 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to support efforts to assist displaced persons in Mali and South Sudan. The company will provide $300,000 for Mali, and $700,000 for South Sudan, to help safeguard refugees in those areas, including providing healthcare and education.
Fast Retailing has been providing clothing for people in need including refugees throughout the world since 2007. Through its product recycling program as of September 2019, the company has delivered 36.57 million items of recycled clothing for displaced persons in 72 countries and regions. In 2011 Fast Retailing concluded a Global Partnership agreement with the UNHCR to contribute in a more comprehensive manner to resolving the refugee issue including the provision of the clothing to forcibly displaced persons, and has been proactively pursuing measures to support the independence of displaced persons.
Over a three year period from 2016 to 2018, Fast Retailing has provided the UNHCR with a total of $10 million, which has been used for particularly urgent humanitarian crises and to support self-reliance programs for refugees, mainly in Asia.
Going forward, through its support for the UNHCR, Fast Retailing will continue to provide as many displaced persons as possible with aid, clothing, and hope for the future.
