Global apparel retailer UNIQLO today announces it has signed an Official Supplier Agreement with the Swedish Curling Association to provide UNIQLO competition apparel and LifeWear for travel, training, and daily living to members and officials of Sweden's national team. UNIQLO will begin supplying items at the European Curling Championships, which start on November 18 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Athletes from Team Edin, the national curling team, will wear UNIQLO apparel at the Karuizawa International Curling Championships in Japan in December this year.

Sweden's national curling team

UNIQLO first supported the team at the 2022 Beijing Games, where it won medals across all events, including men's gold, women's bronze, and mixed doubles silver. The new agreement came about because of the Swedish Curling Association's high regard for UNIQLO apparel, with exceptional quality and innovation to help athletes perform at their best. Another draw is the LifeWear ethos of making everyone's life better.

Today's news marks the second time UNIQLO has concluded an Official Supplier Agreement with a national sports team from Sweden, the first being with the Swedish Ski Association for its mogul team. Through these partnerships, UNIQLO develops its LifeWear for customers everywhere, innovating for better, more comfortable living through the insights of world-class athletes.

Koji Yanai, Group Senior Executive Officer at Fast Retailing, commented that, "We are honored Sweden's national curling team was satisfied with our apparel at the Beijing Games, and to conclude this Official Supplier Agreement. Curling is fun for people of all ages, and we aim to leverage our partnership to promote curling and LifeWear to people everywhere. We also look forward to Sweden's national curling team collaborating on our UNIQLO DREAM PROJECT, an initiative to inspire children and youth to discover a love of sport."

Michael Marklund, President of the Swedish Curling Association, said, "This is the first time Swedish Curling has a holistic partnership regarding uniforms - something that we have wished for a long time. UNIQLO has a stellar reputation among athletes, so we are very grateful to UNIQLO for providing us with uniforms. We look to draw on UNIQLO's strong support to deliver world-class performances and highlight the enjoyment of curling to people the world over."

  • Niklas Edin, who captains the Swedish national team, said, "We gained a strong affinity with UNIQLO when it provided items to us at the Beijing Games. We are proud to be able to play in its apparel. I am convinced the outstanding functionality and comfort of UNIQLO clothing will enhance performances."

About apparel covered by the agreement UNIQLO is supplying competition wear, including jackets, shirts, and pants, as well as leggings for the women's team. It is also providing LifeWear for training, traveling, and other aspects of daily living. The competition wear is in a navy and yellow color scheme inspired by the Swedish flag. The athletes are particularly happy with the pants and leggings, whose elasticity supports leg movements that are very important in curling. Some athletes have remarked this is the best gear they have ever worn.
