As a result of the shift to a holding company structure from November 1, 2005, FAST RETAILING CO., LTD. became a holding company and UNIQLO CO., LTD. became an operating company responsible for the domestic UNIQLO operation.
FAST RETAILING was established in May 1963. We opened our first UNIQLO casual wear store in 1984, and subsequently enjoyed fast growth by opening suburban roadside stores.
In November 1998, we opened our first urban store in Harajuku (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). We made a name for ourselves in urban areas such as Tokyo and Osaka, and in October 2005 we opened our first flagship UNIQLO store in Ginza with a shop floor of 1650sqm.
We are now Japan's biggest and most successful casual wear retail chain with over 700 stores and annual net sales of about 400 billion yen.
UNIQLO is unique in its ability to offer low-priced, high-quality casual wear. It has achieved this by maintaining control over the entire process of product development, manufacture, distribution and retail.
