Q

A
Having taken over the commercial family business, Hitoshi Yanai established Ogori Shoji Co., Ltd. in 1963. The company's name was changed to FAST RETAILING in 1991.

We put the words FAST and RETAILING together since we wanted to transform retailing into a more speedy business in Japan.
We have incorporated our quest into our company name to provide customers with the products they want as fast as possible.

Q
What was the purpose behind setting up a holding company?
A
The main aim here was to create a clear division between the close inspection and daily operational functioning of management, and to strengthen governance as a group.
We had noticed in recent years a tendency to resemble large company structures which we wanted to reject out right.
Instead we instilled into all our staff from director level, through operating officer and all of our staff, the need to completely change our approach to our work and regain the venture challenge spirit upon which we built our original business.
Then we are looking for good businesses and managers throughout the world to progress with our M&A plans, to develop a global operation and accelerate the growth of our group.
