UNIQLO congratulates Global Brand Ambassador Shingo Kunieda, world's top-ranked wheelchair tennis player*, on winning the Men's Singles division at the 2020 Australian Open Wheelchair Tennis Tournament. The event was held at Melbourne Park this year from January 29 to February 2.

Kunieda's 27th Singles Grand Slam title overall, the win marks a historic 10th Australian Open title for him.

Speaking after his Australian Open win, Kunieda commented, "I am thrilled that I could pull off a win at the first of the four major tournaments of 2020, which is shaping up to be a big year, and I would like to thank everyone for their continued support."

"UNIQLO is aiming to be No. 1 with a new category of apparel called LifeWear, and as a Global Brand Ambassador, I am delighted to be taking on that challenge alongside them. They provide me with high-functionality apparel that supports my performance day in, day out. The Australian Open takes place in the middle of summer, so an athlete's performance is influenced by how one deals with the heat, and their high-functionality LifeWear allows me to stay focused on the match," he added.

Tadashi Yanai, Chairman, President and CEO of Fast Retailing, said, "We are truly delighted to congratulate our first Global Brand Ambassador and longtime partner Mr. Kunieda on his victory. It is a great honor to stand behind such a brilliant ambassador as he competes to be the world's best with grace and integrity. This victory marks Mr. Kunieda's 27th Grand Slam singles titles, and myself and everyone at UNIQLO are proud that we could support such a stellar achievement."
