We are seeking a patternmaker who will work in collaboration with the New York product planning team and production sites both domestically and internationally to drive the creation of high-quality products that embody the brand’s values.

Department Overview:

Theory’s product development organization is responsible for translating the brand’s philosophy of minimalist, essential beauty into tangible products. Working in collaboration with designers based in New York, the team strives for precision in quality, fit, and silhouette while delivering a wardrobe that combines functionality with sophistication.

Job Description：

In this role, as a patternmaker for the women’s brands Theory (Women’s) and theory luxe, you will understand design intent and brand philosophy and bring them to life in products that balance beautiful silhouettes with comfort.

Main Responsibilities

• Modify designs and patterns developed in New York to ensure a fit suitable for the Japanese body type
• For designs developed in Japan, create highly precise, tailored patterns and specifications while considering the concept, design intent, and mass production requirements
• Collaborate with and drive coordination among departments—including Merchandising, Production, and overseas offices—to optimize quality, fit, and mass-production design
• Realize product development and sales systems through two-way communication between headquarters and stores. Example: Headquarters → Stores: Communicate development intentions regarding product development and pattern design. Stores → Headquarters: Implement product development and pattern design based on customer feedback.
• Every half-year, a representative from the patternmaking team travels to the New York office to promote improvements in pattern development and design systems through dialogue and collaboration with the New York product planning team

• The Job Description may change within the scope of duties related to each headquarters department due to departmental transfers or organizational changes.

Career Path

Depending on your aspirations and aptitude, you may be assigned to different product lines (including responsibility for a full product line) or rotate between the Theory (Women’s) and Theory Luxe brands. While your primary product category will be determined, you will generally have opportunities to work on all product lines, including those outside your primary assignment. Furthermore, you can build a diverse career as a patternmaker, such as by serving as the liaison with the New York team.

Required Experience, Skills, and Abilities

• At least 5 years of experience in patternmaking for women’s apparel
• Experience with apparel-specific CAD software
• Ability to actively gather market and media information and apply it to patternmaking work

Preferred Experience, Skills, and Abilities

• At least 2 years of experience in grading
• Experience using English for internal tasks, such as email correspondence and creating simple documents

Employment Type: Contract Employee (fixed-term, with a 3-month probationary period)

Annual Salary

• Annual Salary Range: 6.56 million yen – 7.04 million yen (Monthly Salary: 410,000 yen – 440,000 yen)
• Allowances: Regional allowance, commuting allowance, overtime allowance, etc. (※ All subject to company regulations)
• Bonuses: Semi-annual bonuses twice a year, year-end bonus (eligibility and amount determined based on company performance and performance evaluations)
• Promotions twice a year (determined based on performance evaluations)

*Salary will be determined based on company regulations, taking into account your previous annual income and experience, and is not limited to the figures listed above.

Working Hours

• Flexible work hours

Standard daily working hours: 8 hours; Break: 1 hour
Core hours…9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Flexible hours: 6:00–9:00 and 14:00–20:00; Overtime may be required

Two days off per week (Saturdays and Sundays; national holidays are workdays) Annual paid leave, special leave (including leave for weddings and bereavement), childcare and family care leave systems, etc.
