Job Description

To achieve dramatic global business growth, it is essential to automate and advance operations through the implementation of intelligent systems that integrate vast amounts of data with the power of science. In particular, recent advancements in generative AI (LLM/agents) are making previously difficult transformations a reality, and a large-scale project is underway to rebuild the company’s entire business processes into “processes that assume the presence of AI.”For this position, we are seeking a Generative AI Specialist to oversee and lead the architectural design and quality assurance (accuracy, safety, and operability) of models and agents.

■ Department Overview
The Digital Business Transformation Services Department is committed to envisioning the "ideal state" of business operations from the customer’s perspective and leading business transformation through the latest digital technologies. We are accelerating the in-house development of e-commerce and store systems, core supply chain systems, and the AI algorithms integrated into them. A diverse team of specialists—including project managers, business analysts, in-house development engineers, data scientists, and UI/UX designers—collaborates closely with business divisions.

In the Data Analysis Team, where you will be assigned, highly specialized data scientists and project managers with deep expertise in AI and data science projects work together to drive initiatives that use data science to innovate business processes across the entire Fast Retailing Group globally. We are actively advancing the implementation of AI and algorithms across various domains by leveraging modern development environments—such as various cloud services—and cutting-edge technologies on the company’s centralized data platform.

■Job Description
As a Generative AI Specialist in the data science field, you will be responsible for the following tasks while collaborating with engineers in business and IT departments.
・Defining business challenges: Collaborate with frontline teams to gain a deep understanding of business processes and define challenges
・Design, implementation, and validation of models/agents (including data collection and preprocessing as needed)
・Business Implementation: Present results to stakeholders and lead the process through execution and results generation. Ensure adoption through implementation in business systems

Additionally, as a member of the Center of Excellence (CoE), you will be responsible for the following tasks:
・Researching technology trends through academic papers and international conferences, and formulating technical strategies and design guidelines
・Designing and presenting solutions to technical and accuracy challenges in individual projects (including hands-on implementation as needed)
・Evaluation design (automated and manual evaluation), establishing improvement cycles, and systematizing mechanisms to ensure reproducible quality
・Consulting and reviewing the use of generative AI within the company
・In-house AI technical training, team building, and member development (designing training materials, exercises, and on-the-job training)

Examples of projects include the following:
・Improving the customer experience on e-commerce sites through the adoption of agent-based commerce
・Development of agents to support store staff and customers
・Development of agents that detect anomalies in production, sales, and logistics planning, and support communication and action planning among stakeholders
・Development of management decision-support agents operating on a "Management Cockpit" that visualizes information for company executives
・Development of AI agents that thoroughly automate company-wide general operations
・Deployment of AI-driven development tools
・Design and implementation of a multi-agent and AI implementation platform that accounts for access control
・Building an AI-ready data infrastructure equipped with ontologies and GraphRAG

The expected outcomes are as follows:
・Reduced lead time from PoC to production deployment
・Improved quality (e.g., accuracy rate, operational utilization rate)
・Strengthened governance (authorization, auditing, and security review pass rates)

Qualifications

■ Required Experience, Skills, and Abilities
・Practical experience as a data scientist (approximately 5 years or more)
・Expertise in generative AI technologies, particularly LLMs and agents. Specifically, experience understanding, implementing, and tuning technologies such as RAG, tool integration (function calling/MCP, etc.), LoRA and other pre-trained models (PEFT), fine-tuning, and ontologies, and applying them to business operations
・Experience collaborating with stakeholders to define challenges and driving initiatives through to execution and the delivery of results
・Ability to abstract ambiguous and complex challenges and independently design analytical and data models
・Documentation and presentation skills to build consensus with executive management and business units and drive operational improvements
・Communication skills to collaborate with members from diverse backgrounds in both Japanese and English

■ Examples of Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities
・Expertise in generative AI technologies other than LLMs, such as image and multimodal AI
・Expertise in traditional AI fields such as statistics, machine learning, mathematical optimization, and operations research
・Master’s or doctoral degrees in data science-related fields, or professional certifications such as the Level 1 Statistical Examination
・Basic knowledge of enterprise system development, with the ability to lead the design, development, and operation of systems and data pipelines based on functional and non-functional requirements
・Experience and domain knowledge in data analysis and project management within the apparel and supply chain sectors
・Proven track record of participation in the technical community, such as publishing papers, presenting at academic conferences, participating in competitive programming or data analysis competitions like Kaggle, contributing to open-source projects, and organizing internal study sessions
・Experience collaborating with international team members or studying abroad

■Annual Salary
Annual Salary Range: 10 million–27 million yen (Monthly Salary: 540,000–1.24 million yen)
Allowances: Regional allowance, commuting allowance, overtime allowance, etc. (※All subject to company regulations)
Bonuses: Semi-annual bonuses twice a year, year-end bonus (eligibility and amount determined based on company performance and performance evaluations)
Promotions: Twice a year (determined based on performance evaluations)
