Reason for Hiring

In 2017, UNIQLO established the Knit Innovation Center within its headquarters in Ariake, Tokyo, to support the development of UNIQLO knitwear. In May 2025, to further accelerate the development of knit products, the Knit Innovation Center was relocated and expanded to Innovation Factory Co., Ltd. (Shinonome, Tokyo)—the Fast Retailing Group’s first in-house factory dedicated to 3D knit production.

The Knit Innovation Center was originally a sample development facility for 3D knitwear utilizing WholeGarment® technology. However, with the move to Shinonome, we have expanded our operations to include not only 3D knitwear but also conventional knitting machines (5-gauge, 7-gauge, 12-gauge, and 14-gauge), and have established a full-line knit development system complete with fulling and finishing equipment. This has enabled us to create an integrated product development and production system where development and production are combined.We are currently recruiting patternmakers to work on knit products.

Job Description

You will be responsible for patternmaking for knit products. Specifically, your duties will include the following:

• Creating sample patterns based on requests from designers
• Creating samples in collaboration with programmers based on the patterns you have created
• Preparing specifications
• Verifying the quality and finish of samples
• Collaborating with production factories to improve quality during mass production, etc.

Career Path

You will start as a knit patternmaker, and opportunities will arise not only to deepen your expertise in this role but also to take on challenges as a patternmaker for other product categories or to serve in a managerial role overseeing the Knit Innovation Center.

Required Knowledge/Experience/Skills

• At least 5 years of patternmaking experience in woven, cut-and-sew, or knit fabrics
• Experience managing the entire process—from product planning through patternmaking to mass production—for multiple items
• Strong interest and enthusiasm for knitwear (Note: This role does not involve design duties)

Desirable Knowledge/Skills/Experience

• Proficiency in CAD (Toray ClairCompo)
• Proficiency in Shima Seiki APEX is a plus
• Experience in pattern making for knit products (conventional machines, whole-garment machines) and in planning and development is a plus
• Language proficiency is not required, but you will be expected to acquire the English skills necessary for your job after joining the company

Employment Type

Contract Employee (Fixed-term, with a 3-month probationary period)

Annual Salary

• Annual Salary Range: 4.25 million–7.04 million (Monthly Salary: 280,000–440,000)
• Allowances: Commuting allowance, overtime pay, etc. (*All subject to company regulations)
• Bonuses: Semi-annual bonuses twice a year, year-end bonus (eligibility and amount determined based on company performance and personnel evaluations)
• Promotions twice a year (determined based on performance evaluations)

*Salary will be determined based on company regulations, taking into account your previous annual income and experience, and is not limited to the figures listed above.

Working Hours

• Either the standard work hours system or the flex-time system. (Determined based on job duties, expected role, and assigned department; you will be notified during the job offer interview.)

8 hours of actual work and 1-hour break between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

• Flexible Work Hours System

Standard daily working hours: 8 hours; Break: 1 hour
Core hours: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Flexible hours: 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Overtime may be required

Holidays and Leave

Two days off per week (Saturdays and Sundays), annual paid leave, special and bereavement leave, childcare and family care leave systems, etc.

*Whether public holidays are considered days off in addition to the days off listed in the preceding paragraph will be specified individually in the contract for part-time employees.
*In addition to paid leave, special leave is granted during the first and second half-year periods (the number of days granted varies depending on employment status and the company to which the employee belongs).
