Job Description
Background of Recruitment
Fast Retailing Group is transforming itself to create a "new industry" based on the concept of "LifeWear" that goes beyond the boundaries of conventional industries. Among these, GU is operating its business with the goal of energizing people everywhere through the power of fashion. Now that g.u. has begun to be accepted as a brand loved around the world by offering global must-haves with Japanese quality and low prices, we aim to accelerate global growth by opening a new store in New York in October 2022 and establishing a new merchandise headquarters in New York in September 2023, which will play a key role in product creation. Under the theme of "GO GLOBAL," GU is aiming to become a full-fledged global fashion brand, and is looking for a merchandise designer in the R&D department.
■Organizational Overview
The R&D Department, to which you will be assigned, consists of designers and pattern makers from all departments, including men's, women's, kids', and merchandise, who are passionate about bringing the joy of fashion to people everywhere.
We research market trends and focus on new materials, designs, and manufacturing processes to create products that exceed our customers' expectations. Under the brand message "YOUR FREEDOM," we will enhance GU's brand value and realize its growth into a truly global brand through the development of products with "fashion + practicality + low price" that meet the needs of our customers.
■ Business Description
As a merchandise designer, you will be responsible for developing GU's merchandise lineup into a pillar of business growth while simultaneously promoting "planning/design development" and "quality improvement" that will be accepted not only in Japan but also globally.
The position will be responsible for developing new product proposals and new product development based on an understanding of mass trends that transcend gender and nationality through market research and trend analysis on a global basis. You will be responsible for all merchandise products, including not only shoes and bags, but also hats and scarves, which are our core products.
The candidate will be in charge of the entire product development process from idea generation to commercialization. When necessary, you will visit our partner material factories and sewing factories, and put your own will into the creation of products with a high degree of perfection.

At least 5 years of experience as a designer at an apparel company/company specializing in goods (experience in the goods department)
Experience in the type of items: shoes, bags, hats, accessories, socks, etc.
Creative thinking and design skills, ability to grasp global trends

Annual salary range: 4.11-7.84 million yen (monthly salary: 270,000-490,000 yen)
