Job Description
■Recruitment Background
Our primary mission in logistics and import/export operations is to “deliver the products customers want, when they want them,” while promptly responding to their evolving needs.
To achieve this, we must not only manage the supply chain but also ensure proper tax compliance in accordance with free trade agreements and the customs laws of each country. It is essential to seamlessly and promptly connect and manage information end-to-end—from shipment at factories in the country of origin to import customs clearance in the country of sale. Therefore, in September 2022, Fast Retailing established a new “Global Trade Management Office,” spun off from the Supply Chain and Finance departments. We are now seeking individuals to join this new organization who can challenge existing systems and lead efforts to strengthen our structure and build and improve business workflows.
■ Department Overview
The Global Trade Management Office, to which you will be assigned, reports directly to the heads of the Logistics and Finance functions. It is responsible for strengthening global customs compliance and identifying cost-reduction opportunities across all Fast Retailing brands (UNIQLO, GU, Link & Theory, and PLST). In the medium term, the office aims to achieve the following three objectives:
(1) Tariff Engineering
Engage from the product development stage to contribute to the development of products with low costs (i.e., low tariff rates).
(2) Creating a system to enhance cost transparency
We will clarify which raw materials are sourced from where—both domestically and internationally—at our overseas contract manufacturing facilities to enhance cost transparency.
(3) In-House Customs Clearance (≈ Proactive Customs Management by the Shipper)
We collaborate with freight forwarders to take the lead in customs clearance procedures ourselves, aiming to improve compliance and shorten lead times.
■Job Description
Depending on your experience, skills, and career aspirations, you will be responsible for trade-related and customs-related tasks, as well as establishing new organizational structures and business processes.
・Assigning and determining tariff codes for each product, streamlining internal processes, and providing feedback and coordinating with freight forwarders
・Selection process for trade agreements and preferential tariffs; support for appropriate FTA selection; and management of import/export regulations related to customs law
・Communication with customs authorities in various countries (including AEO, advance rulings, requests for amended declarations/corrections, and responses to post-clearance audits, etc.) ・Timely and regular reporting to top management regarding customs clearance management; training and awareness-raising for relevant departments and overseas operations; preparation of documentation for each case; and optimal data storage as information assets
*The Job Description is subject to change within the scope of duties related to each department at headquarters due to departmental transfers or organizational changes.
■Career Path
・In collaboration with GHQ, there is a possibility that you will be stationed at Group companies located in ASEAN, the EU, or other regions to manage import and export operations across the Group.
・Additionally, you may be asked to support product development from the perspective of a customs specialist.
・There are also opportunities for career transitions into areas such as trade operations, business planning, and global taxation.
