Job Description
Recruitment Background
GU is Fast Retailing Group's second largest brand. The brand's message is "YOUR FREEDOM", and its mission is to empower people through the power of fashion. The g.u. brand aims to become a globally supported and loved fashion brand along with UNIQLO by offering trendy, fashionable, and practical products at low prices, while taking sustainability into consideration.
Compared to UNIQLO, GU has more room to open new stores, and we aim to grow our business by opening even more stores in the future. In the future, g.u. aims to open as many new stores as UNIQLO, both in Japan and overseas. We are looking for someone who can promote business growth as a leader candidate in the product planning area, which will be the foundation of the g.u. business.
Outline of the Department
The mission of the Product Planning Department is to "improve customer and front-line satisfaction and company profitability, all at the same time, in a healthy way. Merchandise planning is the planning of how many products to make, how to sell them, and how to sell them out, which is the foundation of business. From the formulation of product budgets to the selling out of products, we analyze past performance and future prospects from both quantitative and qualitative perspectives, and formulate and implement countermeasures.
Depending on the aptitude and orientation of the candidate, he/she will be assigned to either the Japanese or overseas business as a product planning manager.
■Job Description
The incumbent will be in charge of the product categories handled by GU (women's, men's, kids', goods, innerwear, etc.), and will lead the creation and execution of the overall business plan, from the formulation of sales budgets and sales plans (by season and month) for the products in charge to production plans and demand forecasts (by week).
Specific duties are expected to include the following
1、Establishment of managerial KPIs related to merchandise: priceline/number of product numbers/ratio of standard products, etc.
2、Development of merchandise budget: by month/season/department/sales/gross profit/cost ratio/discount ratio portfolio
3、Product plan scrutiny: Improve the quality of the plan by scrutinizing the product plan formulated by the MD (Merchandiser) using a more quantitative/logical approach based on actual results.
4、Establishment of demand forecast/sales plan: Based on the product plan in (3) above, the demand forecast for each product is established/verified, and revisions are proposed to the merchandiser. Based on the verified demand forecast, formulate measures to address the issues in cooperation with related departments (Corporate Planning/MD/Marketing/IMD/Inventory Control/Sales) and develop a sales plan.
5、Share tactics with stores based on the sales plan, and based on actual results, manage progress and revise the plan to achieve business targets (sales, gross profit margin, gross profit margin, and inventory at the end of the period).
6. PDCA cycle from 1 to 5 above and accumulate knowledge.
Since GU handles fashion apparel, products change seasonally, and each product is produced and sold in units of tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands. While planning and forecasting are challenging, it is rewarding to dynamically promote business through numerical control, which leads to customer satisfaction and results.
