Job Description
■Recruitment Background
GU, one of the Fast Retailing Group’s flagship brands, aims to become a true global brand by creating hit products that capture major trends, preventing stockouts of best-selling items, and delivering products and services that exceed customer expectations—all under the brand message “YOUR FREEDOM: The freedom to reinvent yourself.”
GU still faces many challenges on its path to becoming a true global brand. We are seeking a men’s patternmaker to join us in advancing GU’s global challenge—delivering maximum fashion enjoyment through a minimal number of SKUs and affordable prices—through transformations across all aspects of the apparel business. This includes building a stronger management team through the recruitment and development of diverse talent; enhancing the quality of products and styling; creating shopping environments that make it easy for customers to shop; improving the accuracy of inventory and sales forecasts; and establishing a flexible system for additional production.
■Organizational Overview
The R&D Department, to which you will be assigned, is a group of experts dedicated to bringing our brand message, “YOUR FREEDOM,” to life through our products. It comprises designers and patternmakers from all GU divisions—Men’s, Women’s, Kids, and Accessories—who work tirelessly every day on product development to deliver fashion that everyone can enjoy worldwide.
We research market trends and focus on new materials, designs, and manufacturing processes to create products that exceed customer expectations. Under the brand message “YOUR FREEDOM,” we aim to enhance GU’s brand value and grow into a true global brand through product development that achieves “fashionability + practicality + affordability” by capturing consumer needs.
The patternmaking team you will be assigned to includes patternmakers across all categories, including women’s, men’s, and kids’ wear.
■ Job Description
You will be responsible for the entire process, from product planning for men’s items to creating patterns and specifications, communicating with partner factories, reviewing samples, and launching products in collaboration with the Merchandising and Marketing departments. The scope of items includes all products sold, such as outerwear, bottoms, shirts, knitwear, innerwear, and loungewear; however, your specific area of responsibility will be determined upon joining, taking into account your areas of expertise.
・You will gather product information both domestically and internationally to drive the development of products that are globally competitive.
・You will propose attractive product specifications and fits tailored to the GU store floor.
・You will collaborate with designers in the MD, Production, and R&D departments, and work directly with suppliers (factories) to develop high-quality products.
■ Position Highlights
・You will work in an environment where the products you create can be enjoyed not only in Japan but by people all over the world. There may also be opportunities for overseas business trips.
・You’ll work closely with other departments—such as the MD, Marketing, and Production departments—in an environment that facilitates easy communication and the exchange of ideas. This is an opportunity to achieve significant results through teamwork.
・In addition to deepening your expertise, there are opportunities to take on leadership and management roles in the future, depending on your abilities, aptitude, and motivation.
