Department Overview

The R&D Department, where this position is based, is a team of experts dedicated to bringing the “LifeWear” concept—the ultimate everyday wear—to market. Our in-house designers and patternmakers are active across six global locations centered in Tokyo (Tokyo, Shanghai, Paris, London, New York, and Los Angeles).Our mission is to plan products that align with people’s living environments, lifestyles, and the times, and to translate designs rooted in real-world needs into the “LifeWear” concept. We aim to continuously provide thoughtfully designed, simple clothing that enhances and enriches the lives of people around the world. Through our clothing, we strive to continually drive innovation in society.

Job Description

You will be responsible for apparel design. Specifically, your duties will include the following:　

• New Product Development and Proposals:

Through global market research and trend analysis, you will plan products that better align with people’s living environments, lifestyles, and the times, embodying the “LifeWear” concept, and translate these ideas into designs.

• Proposals at Product Meetings:

Twice a year—for SS (Spring/Summer) and FW (Fall/Winter)—we hold product meetings to determine which items to produce, in which colors, materials, and silhouettes, in what quantities, and how to market them. You will present your product proposals during these meetings.Additionally, through discussions with leaders from various internal departments around the world—including MD, VMD, Product Planning, MK, and global country managers—you will participate in developing product strategies and sales plans that encompass the entire process from product development to delivery to the customer.

• Management of the Product Development Process:

We expect you to lead the entire process—from brainstorming ideas to product commercialization—in a seamless, end-to-end manner. As needed, you will visit partner fabric mills and sewing factories to ensure the highest standards of craftsmanship.

• The scope of work covers all products sold in the Kids and Baby divisions; however, your specific area of responsibility will be determined upon joining the company, taking into account your areas of expertise.

• Job Description may change within the scope of duties related to various headquarters departments due to departmental transfers or organizational changes.

Depending on your aspirations and aptitude, there are diverse career opportunities available as a designer within the Kids division, including changes in product categories, rotations to different gender and age groups such as Women’s and Men’s, and career development at other global locations.

[Designer Career Example]
After joining as a Women’s Designer, she was promoted within one year of joining due to her strong product development and design proposal skills in her assigned category. She was progressively entrusted with increasingly challenging product categories, taking on the role of translating the Lifewear concept into materials, silhouettes, and designs to bring it to life through clothing. In her third year with the company, she was transferred to the London office.There, in addition to planning products based on European fashion culture and market characteristics, she led collaborative projects with external creators. Through close communication with these creators, she drove the entire process from planning and development to design.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• Candidates with design experience in women’s, baby, girls’, or boys’ wear (at least 5 years of professional experience).

　*Candidates with experience in women’s wear who are interested in girls’ or baby wear are also welcome.

• Experience managing the entire process from product planning through design to mass production. (Experience designing products yourself, placing orders with factories, and producing the final products)

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Experience

• Language proficiency is not required, but we welcome candidates who are motivated to develop English skills beyond basic conversational level.

Employment Type

Contract Employee (Fixed-term, with a 3-month probationary period)
(Depending on performance and evaluations during the first year of the contract period, if you meet our criteria for conversion to a regular employee, we will consider hiring you as a regular employee starting in the second year.)

Annual Salary

• Annual Salary Range: 6.72–11.70 million yen (Monthly Salary: 420,000–650,000 yen)
• Allowances: Commuting allowance, overtime pay, etc. (*All subject to company regulations)
• Bonuses: Semi-annual bonuses twice a year, year-end bonus (eligibility and amount determined based on company performance and performance evaluations)
• Promotions twice a year (determined based on performance evaluations)

*Salary will be determined based on company regulations, taking into account your previous annual income and experience, and is not limited to the figures listed above.

Working Hours

• Either the standard work hours system or the flex-time system. (Determined based on job duties, expected role, and assigned department; details will be provided during the job offer interview.)

8 hours of actual work and 1-hour break between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

• Flexible Work Hours System

Standard daily working hours: 8 hours; Break: 1 hour
Core hours: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Flexible hours: 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Overtime may be required

Holidays and Leave

Two days off per week (Saturdays and Sundays), annual paid leave, special and bereavement leave, childcare and family care leave systems, etc.
*Whether public holidays are considered days off in addition to the days off listed above will be specified individually in the contract for part-time employees.
*In addition to paid leave, special leave is granted during the first and second half of the fiscal year (the number of days granted varies depending on employment status and the company to which the employee belongs).
