Job Description
■Recruitment Background
GU, a major brand of the Fast Retailing Group, has grown since opening its first store in 2006 under the brand message “YOUR FREEDOM: The freedom to reinvent yourself,” leveraging its strengths of fashionability combined with practicality, and high quality at affordable prices. The brand has now expanded to a sales volume of 300 billion yen and aims for further growth toward 1 trillion yen in sales, as well as evolving into a truly global brand.
To achieve this, in 2026, GU appointed Francesco Risso—a globally acclaimed figure—as Creative Director. Under his leadership, the company is enhancing the quality of its products and styling while strengthening its brand marketing communications to ensure they resonate globally.
During this phase of transformation, GU is required to further evolve its unique business model—which it has always cherished: “enjoying fashion to the fullest with a minimal number of SKUs and affordable prices”—and deliver this value to customers around the world. We are seeking a leadership candidate for the Marketing Department, which plays a central role in this effort, to drive GU’s global branding.
■ Department Overview
This position is within the Product Marketing Team of the Marketing Department. You will be responsible for conducting marketing development in tandem with product development, translating product value into concepts, visuals, and content, and creating and disseminating these as marketing assets that resonate globally.
You will also be responsible for planning and executing marketing strategies based on a consistent narrative, spanning from branding to in-store promotions.
This is an organization in a period of transformation, aiming to establish its brand position in the global market based on the revamped GU product lineup developed in collaboration with Mr. Francesco Rizzo.
■Job Description
At GU, designers, merchandisers (MDs), and marketing professionals form a single team for each category—including Women’s, Men’s, and Kids’—handling everything from product development to the marketing that delivers products to customers. You will be responsible for everything from strategy formulation to execution, balancing the perspectives of both retail marketing—which drives day-to-day business—and brand marketing—which aims to establish the brand’s position over the medium to long term—to lead business growth in your assigned category. Specifically, your duties will include the following:
・Planning and executing seasonal strategies for your assigned category
・Collaborating with merchandisers and designers to design business strategies and drive sales promotions
・Translating product value into information that resonates with customers and developing visual content
・Planning, directing the production of, and managing the progress of TV commercials, web campaigns, social media, in-store promotions, and other initiatives
・Designing and managing cross-channel communication across multiple platforms, including stores, e-commerce, and advertising
・Execute and refine marketing initiatives aimed at creating hit products
・Team leadership and management based on experience
With approximately 480 stores in Japan and overseas, as well as mass promotions, outdoor advertising, and all other media utilized by GU, this is an environment where you can easily feel the dynamism of your communication initiatives reaching customers directly and quickly. We expect you to maximize the value of products by category and evolve the shopping experience into one that inspires customers to buy through coordinated looks.
Furthermore, in the future, you will have the opportunity to expand your role as a marketing leader (Team Leader or Department Manager) for brands expanding not only domestically but also globally.
*The Job Description is subject to change within the scope of duties related to each department at headquarters due to department transfers or organizational changes.
