Job Description

■Recruitment Background:
“MADE FOR ALL.” There are many different kinds of clothing in the world, but UNIQLO has a completely new approach to clothing.
Clothing for everyone, transcending all distinctions such as nationality, age, occupation, and gender. We aim to create clothing that people all over the world can easily purchase, that serves as a tool for their individual lifestyles, and that makes them look their best.
The R&D Department is a team of experts dedicated to bringing our “LifeWear” concept to life through products. We are seeking new team members to help us further evolve the creation of clothing that embodies “LifeWear.”

■ Department Overview:
The R&D Department, where you will be assigned, operates out of six global locations centered in Tokyo (Tokyo, Shanghai, Paris, London, New York, and Los Angeles), where our in-house designers and patternmakers are actively engaged.Our mission is to plan products that align with people’s living environments, lifestyles, and the times, and to translate designs rooted in real-world needs into the “LifeWear” concept. We aim to continuously provide thoughtfully designed, simple clothing that improves and enriches the lives of people around the world. Through our clothing, we strive to continually drive innovation in society. We are currently seeking a Goods Designer to join our R&D Department in Tokyo.

■Job Description:
As a Goods Designer, you will be responsible for evolving our goods product line into a pillar of business growth by simultaneously advancing the “planning and design development” of goods that resonate with customers not only in Japan but globally, as well as “improving product quality and sophistication.”
・New Product Proposals and Development: Through global market research and trend analysis, you will identify needs that transcend gender and nationality to propose and develop new products. You will be responsible for the full range of merchandise items, including bags, hats, belts, scarves, and footwear.
・Management of the Product Development Process: You will lead the entire process from brainstorming ideas to commercialization. As needed, you will visit partner material and sewing factories to ensure high-quality manufacturing that reflects your vision.
You will have the opportunity to deliver the products you have planned and developed to customers around the world. Depending on the product, sales volumes can range from tens of thousands to millions of units, making this a position where you can experience manufacturing on a large scale.

Qualifications

■ Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience
・At least 3 years of experience as a designer at an apparel company (including companies specializing in accessories); experience in the accessories department is preferred 
*Item types: Fashion accessories such as bags, hats, belts, scarves, and footwear
*For candidates with only apparel design experience: You must be able to propose which items, designs, silhouettes, fabrics, and materials complement apparel as fashion items, and possess the skills to identify customer needs and incorporate them into your designs
・Ability to identify global trends, creative thinking, and design skills

■ Ideal Candidate Profile
・Knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control, as well as design knowledge of merchandise in general ・Strong interest in enhancing product quality and refinement
・Individuals capable of incorporating new technologies, materials, and current trends and consumer needs into their designs in a timely manner, and who have a strong interest in doing so

*During the selection process, you may be asked to submit past design sketches, portfolio pieces, or other work samples.

Work Conditions

■Employment Type
Contract Employee (Fixed-term contract with a 3-month probationary period)
(Depending on your performance and evaluation during the first year of your contract as a contract employee, if you meet our criteria for conversion to a regular employee, we will consider hiring you as a regular employee starting in the second year.)
* The employment contract as a contract employee will end after a one-year term and will not be renewed.
* If you are not hired as a regular employee, your employment contract will end upon expiration of the contract term

■ Annual Salary
・Annual Salary Range: 4.25–8.00 million yen (Monthly Salary: 280,000–500,000 yen)
・Allowances: Commuting allowance, overtime pay, etc. (※All subject to company regulations)
・Bonuses: Semi-annual bonuses twice a year, year-end bonus (eligibility and amount determined based on company performance and performance evaluations)
・Promotions twice a year (determined based on performance evaluations)

*Salary will be determined based on company regulations, taking into account your previous annual income and experience, and is not limited to the figures listed above.

■ Working Hours
Either the standard work schedule or the flex-time system
(Determined based on job duties, expected role, and assigned department; details will be provided during the job offer interview)

・Standard Work Hours System
8 hours of actual work and 1-hour break between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

・Flexible Work Hours System
Standard daily working hours: 8 hours; break: 1 hour
Core hours: 9:00–14:00
Flexible hours: 6:00–9:00 and 14:00–20:00; overtime work may occur

■ Holidays and Leave
Two days off per week (Saturdays and Sundays) Annual paid leave, special leave (including leave for weddings and bereavement), childcare and nursing care leave systems, etc.
*Whether public holidays are considered days off in addition to the days off listed above will be specified individually in the contract for part-time employees
*In addition to paid annual leave, special leave is granted during the first and second half of the fiscal year (the number of days granted varies depending on employment status and the company to which the employee belongs)
