Fast Retailing has launched a series of talk sessions led by female executives in the Group. The talks focus on such personal experiences as the opportunities and challenges the executives have faced in their careers, how they balance their professional and personal lives, as well as working around such lifestyle changes as having and raising children or looking after family members.

About Unconsious Bias

Fast Retailing actively promotes the career development of female employees as a core effort towards creating diverse workplaces. Yet some of the female employees raise concerns and questions about the workload of manager roles, what it takes to be an executive, making decisions under pressure, and the work-life balance. The talk sessions aim to alleviate these concerns by having female executives share their experiences and career advice, helping to create an environment where every employee can plan their career with a positive view toward each life stage.

At the first session, held online, a director of UNIQLO Global Marketing Department spoke on the theme of building a career mixing work and child-rearing while living life to the full. The session was attended by over 160 employees, regardless of gender, from various positions up to executives.

The speaker described her career so far, from joining the company and going from being a member and manager to becoming a director, how she combined work with becoming a mother and raising a child and overcoming slow points in her career. She talked about the joy of working from the perspective of an executive, hints on balancing work and personal life, and shared her opinion regarding scheduling around children.

These sessions will be held regularly and not only feature members from Global Headquarters as speakers, but also female executives from markets around the worldwide, reflecting the diversity of Fast Retailing.
