UNIQLO (SINGAPORE) PTE. LTD. was set up in August 2008 as a joint venture with Wing Tai Retail PTE. Ltd., Singapore's leading retailer. In April 2009, the venture opened its first store, the Tampines 1 Store, in the Tampines 1 shopping mall. The second store opened in August 2009 in central Singapore in the new ION Orchard commercial facility, a building that is expected to become a new landmark in the upscale Orchard Road shopping district. This was soon followed by the launch of the Somerset Store, the third UNIQLO store in Singapore and the first large-format store, with an area exceeding 1,300 square meters (400 tsubo), and which carries the UNIQLO +J collection designed by Ms. Jil Sander, a renowned designer in the global world of luxury brand fashion.
