Career Paths at Stores
Employee Franchise Program
UNIQLO's employee franchise program permits employees to set up an independent company and operate a UNIQLO store as a franchisee. Thus far, eight UNIQLO store managers have used this system to become independent franchise owners.
The "superstar" store manager designation is reserved for individuals who have greater authority than ordinary store managers. Through the operations of their stores, these managers are expected to quickly identify problems and issues that concern the entire UNIQLO organization, and then play a part in finding solutions. Basically, our goal is to select people with the skills to set standards for all our stores and thus to have a positive impact on the entire company.
Regional Regular Employee Hiring System
UNIQLO has launched a regional regular employee hiring system on Apr 1, 2007. This system is aimed at providing non-permanent employees such as contract employees an opportunity to change their status to regular employees adhered to first-hired geographic area.
This system will allow talented non-permanent personnel, who could not previously apply for regular employee positions due to the corporate relocation policy for regular personnel, to fulfill their potentials. The system also supports UNIQLO's aggressive strategy on new large store openings in terms of hiring appropriate store staff.
Of non-permanent employees, contract and temporary employees who work 40 hours a week are eligible to apply this system, and UNIQLO will offer about 5,000 positions in the next two years. In this April, 1,600 former non-permanent employees have become new regional regular employees.
Head Office Career Plans
At the head office, employees have access to a variety of training programs designed to give them the skills needed to become team leaders, division managers and even senior executives. To provide basic problem-solving skills, there is a framework logic tree course and a program for giving supervisors the proper mindset and approach to their work. Both are coaching programs that last six months. Managers who complete the course gain new insights into their work and can better communicate with the people they supervise.
